What is OBE in NEBOSH IGC?

The NEBOSH Open Book Exam (OBE) is a type of exam that allows candidates to refer to study books, notes and other helpful resources during the exam. It is a type of online assessment that makes easy to take the test from the candidate's own preferred location, be it home, office or any other place where they are comfortable while taking the OBE.

OBE is a scenario based exam. Candidate will be given a realistic scenario of any organisation of workplace. He have to apply all his knowledge to this scenario by answering the questions mentioned in OBE question paper. NEBOSH wants to check the candidate's ability of applying knowledge to a workplace. This exam is completely a different thing from closed-book examination. It could be difficult and challenging for those who are just familiar with closed-book examination because in closed book examination candidates have to prepare the answer from the book. But in NEBOSH OBE candidates have to apply their knowledge and facts on scenario.

Although it's an Open Book Exam, there is a time limit for exam takers. Candidate have 24 hours to write their answers and submit on NEBOSH Portal. If they do not submit their answer sheet within the time limit they will be marked absent resulting in REFER (FAIL). 

Candidates are strictly prohibited to just copy and paste the answers from the helping resource. If any plagiarism or cheat got caught during marking, you will get these results. REFER (Fail), TBA (TO BE ANNOUNCED) means Investigation of your exam and if you found guilty you will be ban from NEBOSH.

That's why you must have to follow the instructions of NEBOSH while taking your exam.

IG1 Open Book Exam (OBE) format: 

NEBOSH Open Book Exam paper format consists of a realistic scenario. (1, 2 or 3 pages) and 5 to 8 scenario based questions. You have to read the whole scenario and imagine yourself in the scenario. NOTE: You have 24 hours to complete this OBE, otherwise you will be marked absent.

It normally takes almost 10 to 12 hours to complete OBE. If you have enough study material and resource than it will be too much easy for you to complete in 10 hours. 

Passing Criteria of IG1 NEBOSH OBE:

NEBOSH IG1 OBE consists of 100 marks in Total. You have to get 45% marks to pass IG1 unit otherwise less than 45% will be referred (Failed). Candidates with 44 to 65 marks will get Pass. Candidates with 65 to 74 marks will get Credit and more than 75 marks will get Distinction.

Is NEBOSH Open Book Exam Hard?

Well, NEBOSH Open Book Exam is a challenging assessment. But if you stay consistent and prepare all the contents of this course thoroughly you will clear it in first attempt. The questions  of NEBOSH OBE are designed to test your ability to apply your knowledge and skills in the scenarios. The IG1 Open Book Exam has a time limit, and you have to manage your time. However, with proper preparation, study, and practice, you can develop the necessary skills and confidence to clear this exam in first attempt.
