How Long It Will Take to Clear NEBOSH IGC?

Therefore, In this blog I'm going to share my journey of clearing NEBOSH IGC in first attempt and also factors that will influence your journey of clearing NEBOSH IGC in first attempt. By understanding these factors you will be able to plan your study schedule and also you will stay motivated to achieve this highly valuable certification and most importantly you can become a NEBOSH certified health and Safety Professional.
So let's get into the blog post and answer your question, How long It will take to complete NEBOSH IGC qualification?
Duration of NEBOSH IGC course depends upon it's units, classes, your preparation and some other important factors let's understand each one-by-one.
Understanding NEBOSH IGC Syllabus:

NEBOSH IGC Course consists of two units first one is IG1 and the second one is IG2. Obviously you have to give time to both of these units for preparation, therefore, you have take classes of both IG1 and IG2 unit so that you can get the knowledge of health and safety embedded in this course.
Classes Duration of Both IG1 and IG2 Units:
Overall classes in IG1 take up to 40 hours in total. It means that you have to take daily class of 4 hours in 10 days. Similarly Classes of IG2 Take 80 Hours that means you have to take 4 hours of class per day for 20 days.
Overall, NEBOSH IGC course take 80 to 120 hours.

Study Hours:
As I have mentioned above that you have to attend the classes of 4 hours daily for 30 Days (10+20), then it's not over. In fact, you could say that it's just a beginning. NEBOSH International General Certificate is most valuable as well as a difficult qualification. You have to give a lot of time to it so that you can clear NEBOSH International General Certificate. You need almost 3 self-hours on daily basis for 30 days for a strong preparation of the syllabus and exam techniques.
Factors That Affect Duration of NEBOSH IGC:
Factors that can affect the duration of NEBOSH IGC course and study time include:
1) Prior Knowledge about Health and Safety:
If
you are a safety professional and familiar with health and safety than NEBOSH
IGC will just take the time of classes 80-120 Hours. But if you are a fresher
and you have no knowledge about health and safety then you have to give your
extra time in understanding in practising NEBOSH IGC course
content.
2) Mode of learning:
Different institutes and
learning partners are offering two different modes of studying NEBOSH IGC
course.
- Online
- Physical
If you have joined physical class, it is likely to take less time in completing the NEBOSH IGC course because you will get detailed knowledge by questioning your concerns and resolving them. However, If you are in online mode of study, you are more likely to take more time because you have to research for your concerns and obviously research take's time.
3) Availability of your Study Time:
Availability
of study time refers to your dedication, time and effort that you will
invest for the preparation of NEBOSH IGC units. If you will give more time you
will prepared more and you will become prepared enough so that you can beat the
exam and your time will be saved. If not, you have to study and practice again
and again until you sit for your exam and clear it.4) English Language proficiency:
NEBOSH
IGC course is completely in ENGLISH language. Learner must have adequate
English writing, listening and understanding skills so that he can pass the
NEBOSH Exam. Obviously if you will not understand the English language you will
not get the knowledge about health and safety, if you will not get that
knowledge you will take a lot time to learn English first and then Skills of
health and safety. That's why English skills are most important in case of
clearing NEBOSH IGC.
Availability

How you can schedule your time for the preparation of NEBOSH IGC?
For IG1:
- Once you have completed your class of 4 hours, read the whole syllabus for more than 3 times that you have studied (Assignment / Homework) in the class. It will take 40 to 60 minutes depending on your reading and understanding skills.
- After reading and understanding homework, Ask your tutor to give a task from any past scenario which is related to your homework.
For Example : You have studied the topic "health and safety culture" in the class, then you should solve the task (i.e. Based on the scenario only what indicates of negative health and safety culture in the organisation) or ( Explain how health and safety culture can be improved in the "#Name of organisation"). - This will take up to 2 hours and you will practice the exam techniques, time management and Studied knowledge as well.
For IG2:
First of All, I recommend you to make your IG2 report during your IG2 Classes.
- Let's Imagine you have completed your Class of IG2 in four hours and you have studied about potential hazards of site. let's take the hazard Work Related Upper Limb Disorder as an example.
- When you come back home, open the template of IG2 report and fill the whole row of Part 2 of the report with it. This will take almost 3 hours if you have no experience about Hazard Identification, impact of hazards, and control measure of hazards. But if you are a professional then it will take not more than a hour.

How much time I have taken to clear NEBOSH IGC?
I have taken more than 4 months to complete NEBOSH IGC. Yes I was completely fresh in this field. I have zero knowledge about health and safety.
